// the product

See every function in your niche — scored.

ScanGap turns a marketplace niche into one app × function matrix. Every function scored Won, Contested or Open — and every call traceable to the real apps behind it. So you build only where it's still green.

// how we score

No black box. Four signals, every one inspectable.

Every Won / Contested / Open call comes from the same four inputs — combined, never guessed. You can see each signal, and trace every verdict back to the apps it came from.

#
INPUT 01

App count

How many apps already serve the niche. A crowded shelf raises saturation — but on its own it never decides the call.

INPUT 02

Install & market concentration

How installs cluster. When the top 3 apps own most of the installs, a function is effectively locked — concentration matters more than raw count.

INPUT 03

Rating quality

Star averages weighted by review volume. A leader with thousands of strong reviews is a deeper moat than one with a handful — quality is read, not just quantity.

INPUT 04

Momentum & recency

How recently apps shipped and how fast installs move. A stale leader is a softer target than one still accelerating — timing is part of the score.

app count × concentration × rating quality × momentum saturation 0–100
// evidence drill-down

Every call links to the apps behind it.

No verdict is asked to be taken on faith. Open any cell and you see exactly which apps own the function, how installs concentrate, and why it scored the way it did.

Illustrative example — figures below show the shape of the evidence
Won Photo & Video Reviews 12 of 240 apps ship it · top 3 own 80% of installs

A clear leader plus two strong challengers absorb nearly all the demand. New entrants compete on price, not gap. The cell links straight to all 12 apps and their install share.

Loox ★ 4.9 · ~110k installs
Judge.me ★ 4.8 · ~95k installs
Yotpo ★ 4.6 · ~60k installs
Contested AI Moderation 6 of 240 apps ship it · no app over 30% of installs

Several apps fight over the same function with no decisive winner. Beatable — but you ship into a fight, not an empty room. Every contender is one click away.

Judge.me ★ 4.8 · partial coverage
Yotpo ★ 4.6 · partial coverage
Open Q&A / Community 1 of 240 apps ships it · demand present, no owner

Buyers ask for it in reviews, but almost nobody ships it well. This is the green column — build here. The drill-down shows the lone weak incumbent and the demand signals behind the call.

One weak incumbent ★ 4.2 · thin reviews

// product questions

How the product works, answered

What exactly is a "function"?

A function is a discrete job apps in the niche do — "Photo & Video Reviews", "AI Moderation", "Q&A / Community". We break each niche into its functions and score every one Won, Contested or Open, instead of judging whole apps.

How do you decide Won vs Contested vs Open?

From four inputs combined: app count, install/market concentration, rating quality, and momentum. Won means a few apps clearly dominate; Contested means several fight with no winner; Open means demand exists but nobody ships it well. Each call links to the apps so you can check the work.

Where does the data come from?

We crawl the public marketplace listings directly — app counts, ratings, review volume and recency. We re-crawl weekly, so the matrix reflects the field as it stands now, not a stale snapshot.

Can I see the apps behind a verdict?

Yes — that is the point. Every cell in the matrix expands to the real apps, their ratings, and how installs concentrate. The output is auditable, not a number you have to trust blindly.

Which marketplaces are supported?

Shopify is live today. Wix, monday.com, Jira and Zendesk are indexing and ship as they come online — the same matrix, scoring and drill-down apply to each.
